Hi Moms,
Amidst the many roles we play as moms is another quest for meaning that is deeply personal: the pursuit of your life’s purpose.
As I ran around everyday wearing the hats of being a daughter, a wife, a mother, a sister, a friend, a corporate woman, an entrepreneur, a student, a minister of God and so many other roles- I keep asking myself: so what was I really created for? What is my life’s purpose and is it what I am doing right now?
It’s easy to feel like finding and fulfilling your purpose should happen quickly or all at once. But the truth is, it takes time. And that’s okay.
As I continue the series of “Pursuing your life’s Purpose as a Mom”; today’s edition is focused on the topic: It Takes Time.
I am sharing 5 truths about why your purpose as a mom won’t unfold overnight, and why it is okay.
1. It’s a Journey, Not a Destination
Often, we picture achieving our purpose in life as a singular moment or achievement — a big “aha!” moment. But in reality, it’s a journey. Generally, as a mom, your purpose will likely evolve as your kids grow, as you change over the years, and as life presents new opportunities and challenges. Embrace every moment along the way, knowing very well that all things are working together for your good and better outcome in life.
Your journey is just as valuable as the destination. Don’t allow the twists and turns on the road to break your aspirations and dreams, just be assured that you are on course and you are bit by bit arriving at your desired destination, even then, it’s not over!
2. Motherhood Shapes Your Purpose
Don’t be surprised that yes, motherhood shapes your purpose. Becoming a mom shifts your priorities, and sometimes, it’s hard to know where your personal goals fit in.
However, motherhood can actually deepen your sense of purpose. The love you pour into your children, the sacrifices you make, and the wisdom you gain (daily negotiation skills…hahaha) — all of these experiences help clarify what truly matters to you and can guide you toward your greater purpose. You would soon realize that your purpose is no more the small ambition you may have entertained before motherhood but it is becoming a bigger and better dream accommodating many more people in your life.
3. The Process of Discovering Your Purpose Takes Patience
It’s tempting to rush into new projects or ambitions, but remember: true fulfillment doesn’t happen in a hurry.
Proverbs 13:11 says that: Substance obtained in haste will be diminished. But what is collected by hand, little by little, shall be multiplied. This verse of Bible scripture suggests that things of substance are not acquired in haste. It takes Time.
As you explore what lights you up, trust the process. Be patient with yourself. There will be seasons of discovery and others of pause. Sometimes, what’s most important is simply taking the next small step, not reaching the finish line immediately.
4. Balancing Your Purpose with Family Responsibilities Requires Flexibility
People are your greatest asset. It takes People to achieve every life goal you have. As much as you want to pursue your dreams, your family relationship must be your priority, especially as a mom.
There will be times when family responsibilities take center stage. That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your purpose, it just means that it’s evolving to fit your current life stage. Flexibility is key. Don’t be so rigid and inadaptable to the events of life thinking constantly that it is stifling you out of purpose. Your purpose might take on a different form in the present, but that doesn’t diminish its importance.
5. Small Steps Lead to Big Impact
Every action you take, no matter how small it seems, is a step forward toward fulfilling your purpose. Whether it’s dedicating time to yourself by watching a movie, reading a book, learning a new skill, or even having a meaningful conversation with your children or spouse, these moments build momentum.
It’s the little things that add up to become the BIG THING, so celebrate each small victory along the way. You must not wait for the big thing to happen for you before you are happy; what if it never happens. Enjoy every moment and be happy now- All things work together for those who love the Lord.
3 Takeaways for Your Life’s Purpose Journey:
- Trust the process: It’s okay if your purpose doesn’t look the same every day. Embrace the evolution.
- Flexibility is key: Balance your goals with the needs of your family, and know that your purpose can adapt.
- Celebrate small wins: Every little step is progress. Recognize the impact of each action, no matter how small.
Remember, moms — your purpose is just as important as your family. The journey might take time, but it will be worth it. Keep going. You’ve got this!
With love and encouragement.
